F.A.Q.

  • My child is on the 'Gifted and Talented' register at school and has the writing capabilities of a ten year old and she is only six. How will you ensure she is stretched in a class of children of the same age?

At Writers Inked, the classes are split by age, however our teachers are skilled and talented professionals who differentiate their planning and teaching to ensure each child is challenged and accessing the learning. There will support activities for those children who require extra support, similarly there will be extension activities in each class for those children who are able to undertake more challenging tasks.

  • What style of writing will you teach?
Writers Inked ensures that we teach a broad range of skills in all three classes and we aim to ensure that each term the children have had experience of writing for a variety of audiences. We include a range of fiction and non-fiction genres and use these genres to focus on the skills required to be a confident writer.
  • My child loves to read but cannot bear to write, what could you offer them?
The combination of Storytelling, Acting and Writing creates a link between the page and the pen and enables the children to orally rehearse their stories before they set them down on the page.  The action, adventure stories that are acted out in the garden, the dolls house sage that take place on a daily basis and the role-play in the school playground are performances that include the children's experiences. At Writers Inked, we aim to link each writer's experiences with their imaginations and set there ideas on paper.  The skills that we teach in the writing workshops take this a step further and develop each writer's idea into a written piece for their portfolio.
  • I am concerned that my child is not naturally outgoing and might not enjoy the drama classes, what can Writer's Inked offer them?
We offer each writer opportunities to work in small groups, as a class in pairs and individually. We would never leave a writer in the spotlight if they felt anxious. The ethos of Writers Inked is centred on building confidence and self-esteem and encouraging successful writers. The structured lessons in each of the three classes include warm-ups, warm downs, exercises and skills. Each of our writers leaves Writer's Inked each week having learnt new skills, made new friends and buzzing with excitement because they have had a wonderful time receiving praise for becoming a more successful writer.
  • What will I see at the end of term exhibition?
The exhibition will be a promenade performance which invites parents to walk around and enjoy performances, viewing each writer's portfolio of work from this term and listening to the writers tell tales!
